Hero Product Shot

The single image that carries a homepage, a campaign or a launch.

One free generation a day. No account, no card.

How it works

  1. 1. Upload your product

Use your sharpest, cleanest source — a hero image is scrutinised more than any other asset you make.

  2. 2. Choose a hero treatment

Pick the lighting drama and framing, keeping in mind where any text will eventually sit.

  3. 3. Generate and download

Why this is worth getting right

A hero image is doing a different job from every other photograph in a catalogue, and treating it as simply the best product shot is why so many are disappointing. Catalogue images inform; a hero image asserts. It usually appears at the top of a homepage, at the head of a campaign or across the width of a banner, which means it has to survive being cropped into several aspect ratios and still make sense — a composition perfectly balanced at 16:9 that collapses when a phone crops it to something nearly square has failed at the only moment that matters. That is why negative space is a design decision rather than an absence: it is where the headline, the subhead and the button are going to live, and a hero image with the product dead centre leaves a designer no room to work, which is how you end up with text sitting on top of the product. Lighting is allowed to be dramatic here in a way it should not be in a catalogue, because you are establishing a mood rather than describing a finish, and hard directional light with real falloff carries more conviction than the even illumination that serves a listing page. The trap is drama that misrepresents. Deep shadow that hides half the product or a coloured gel that shifts its actual colour will win attention and then lose trust the moment the buyer sees the real thing.

Tips that actually help

  • Compose with deliberate negative space where the headline and button will sit, rather than centring the product and forcing text on top of it.
  • Check the composition survives at least three crops, since a hero image gets reshaped for desktop, mobile and social and has to work in all of them.
  • Allow harder, more directional light than a catalogue shot, because this image is establishing mood rather than describing finish.
  • Do not let drama misrepresent — a gel that shifts the product colour buys attention now and costs a return later.
  • Use your highest-quality source, as a hero image is displayed larger and studied longer than anything else you produce.

Who uses this

Homepage banners
One image carries the first impression of the whole brand, and it has to hold up beside typography rather than fight it.
Product launches
A launch needs a single definitive image that press, social and email can all reuse without looking repetitive.
Paid campaign creative
Ad placements crop aggressively, so a hero composition that survives reshaping is worth more than one perfect ratio.
Wholesale and press kits
Publications want one strong image with space around the product, and supplying it makes coverage easier to secure.

Частые вопросы

How is a hero shot different from a catalogue image?
A catalogue image informs and should be neutral. A hero image asserts, carries mood, and has to leave room for typography, which changes both the lighting and the composition.
How much negative space should I leave?
Enough for the headline, subhead and button your design actually uses. Decide the layout first, because retrofitting space into a finished image is not possible.
Why does my banner look wrong on mobile?
Almost always because it was composed for one wide ratio. Mobile crops far closer to square, so check the composition at several ratios before committing.
Can lighting be dramatic?
Yes, more so than in a listing image — provided it does not hide the product or shift its colour. Mood is legitimate; misrepresentation is not.
Should the product be centred?
Rarely. Off-centre placement usually produces a stronger composition and leaves the space that type needs.
Can I use a hero image as a marketplace primary?
Usually not, since marketplaces want plain backgrounds and no text. Hero images belong on your own site, in campaigns and in press use.
How many hero images do I need?
One strong one per campaign or launch, plus crops. Several competing heroes dilute the thing a hero image exists to do.
Is the free generation really free?
