Reflection Product Photography

A flipped copy is not a reflection, and the eye knows the difference.

One free generation a day. No account, no card.

How it works

  1. 1. Upload your product

A clean cutout works best, since the reflection is generated beneath it.

  2. 2. Choose a reflective surface

Glossy acrylic, polished stone and glass each behave differently.

  3. 3. Generate and download

One free watermarked result. Sign up for the clean, full-resolution file.

Why this is worth getting right

A reflective base is one of the oldest ways to make a product look premium, and the most common way it is faked is also the most obvious: flipping a copy of the product and fading it out. That is not what a reflection looks like, and viewers detect the difference without being able to name it. Three properties distinguish a real one. The geometry is different, because a reflection is seen from the camera position through the surface, so it shows slightly more of the underside of the object than the direct view does — a flipped duplicate shows the same face twice, which is subtly impossible. It falls off with distance, fading and blurring as it recedes from the contact point rather than fading uniformly. And it takes on the character of the surface, since polished stone scatters and softens while acrylic and glass stay sharper, and a reflection that is sharper than the surface would allow reads as a paste. The contact point does the most work, as it does with shadows: the reflection is sharpest and strongest exactly where the object meets the surface, and softening it there is the fastest way to lose the illusion. Reflections and shadows together need care, because a highly reflective surface produces a weak shadow, and rendering both at full strength contradicts the physics the viewer expects.

Tips that actually help

  • Avoid a simple flipped copy, because a real reflection shows slightly more of the underside than the direct view does.
  • Fade and blur the reflection with distance rather than uniformly, since that is how a real one recedes.
  • Match the reflection sharpness to the surface, as polished stone softens while acrylic stays crisp.
  • Keep the reflection strongest at the contact point, which is where the illusion is either sold or lost.
  • Do not render a strong shadow and a strong reflection together, since a reflective surface produces a weak shadow.

Частые вопросы

Why does my reflection look fake?
Usually because it is a flipped copy. A real reflection shows slightly more of the object underside than the direct view, which a duplicate cannot.
How should it fade?
With distance from the contact point, blurring as it recedes. A uniform fade reads as a graphic effect rather than an optical one.
Does the surface matter?
Considerably. Polished stone scatters and softens the reflection while acrylic and glass keep it sharp, and a mismatch is noticeable.
Where does the illusion succeed or fail?
At the contact point. The reflection is strongest and sharpest exactly where the object meets the surface.
Can I use a shadow as well?
Carefully. A reflective surface produces a weak shadow, so rendering both at full strength contradicts the physics.
Which products suit it?
Hard-edged items with clean geometry — fragrance, electronics, jewellery. Soft irregular products produce muddled reflections.
Is it allowed on marketplace primaries?
Usually treated as a styling element, so check the channel. It is safest on your own site and in campaigns.
Is the free generation really free?
Yes. One per day, watermarked and capped at 1024px. Signing up gives you 20 credits and clean full-resolution files with full commercial rights.
